DESERT SPRINGS RESORT ANNOUNCE
OPENING OF NEW CRICKET GROUND
It is with great pleasure that we announce that the development of the new cricket ground with an eighteen (18) wicket square at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía, south-east Spain, is now completed.
The cricket ground has been constructed to ECB standards and specifications and is complimented by a Marquee pavilion, sightscreens, scoreboard, sprint strips, and associated facilities. It provides an outstanding facility to practice and play cricket all year round and, in particular, out of the English cricket season. The cricket ground will provide opportunities for festivals and tournaments covering all formats of the game, appealing to cricketers of all ages and abilities.
The inaugural match will be a T20 Match scheduled to be played on the ground on Thursday 22nd February with the Tom Maynard Academy XI competing against the national team of Spain XI commencing at 11.00hrs through to approximately 14.00hrs with the second T20 match taking place between 15.00hrs – 18.00hrs.
Matt Maynard said:
“Desert Springs has excellent facilities for the players to work on their games and on their fitness and we’re pleased again to be partnering with them, and particularly excited that this year we are going to be playing our traditional end-of-programme T20 matches at the new ground there.”
Desert Springs Sales & Marketing Manager, Simon Coaker remarked: –
“This year marks the fifth year in a row that the Tom Maynard Academy have returned to Desert Springs Resort to complete their academy programme.
It is only fitting that such a great supporter of our Resort should be the first to compete on the new cricket ground.
We sincerely hope that you will be able to join with us to enjoy a lazy day watching the cricket being played!”
