The Welsh Ladies Under-21 Team has returned home after competing in the European Team Championships, which took place in Utrecht, Holland from 11th-15th July. Qualifying in 8th position the team looked outstanding in their new Desert Springs’ apparel and managed to grasp the last place in the top flight.
Despite the best efforts of all team members and some spirited performances from Sahra Hassan and Breanne Loucks, who managed a hole in one against the hosts, Holland, the first of the match play stages saw the Welsh players comprehensively defeated by top qualifiers Spain. By the end of the championships, Wales had been unable to improve on their 8th place ranking.
Breanne Louks has achieved further personal success, being named as a member of the European Squad for the upcoming Curtis Cup. She has been invited to attend the reception at Buckingham Palace, as part of the 2006 Curtis Cup Team, where she and her team mates will be hosted by Prince Andrew, before flying out to the USA for the big match from 29th – 30th July.
Wales Captain, Tegwen Matthews, one of Wales’ finest amateur golfers with 4 Curtis Cup appearances and numerous amateur titles to her name, is the current Wales Captain and will join the party for the annual ‘old girls’ match, to be held prior to the main event.
Good luck to both of them!
