Desert Springs members; Ann and Mike Thorpe, Paul and Lynn Taylor, Alan Patterson, Freddie Beames and Wikkie de Graaf all made the journey to La Cala Golf Resort in Andalucía to represent Desert Springs Golf Club in the ‘IX Día del Interclub Tournament’ on Sunday 1st June, conquered and returned with the title!
The tournament comprised 8 teams from Andalucía to play in a pairs better ball stableford competition. Team Desert Springs scored a total of 143 stableford points, 10 points clear of La Cala, and 14 more than Guadalmina Golf Club, who came in second and third position respectively. Santa Clara Golf Club was fourth, followed by Atalaya, Novo Sancti Petri, El Paraíso and finally Antequera Golf Club.
Jorge Mansilla García and Juan Jesús Peralta García representing El Paraiso Golf Club won the best pair result with 40 stableford points, and Rosa María Sánchez Gonzalo representing Guadalmina Golf Club won the nearest to the pin contest on the Par 3, 12th hole.
Desert Springs Competition Committee member Wikkie de Graaf remarked on the victory:
‘I am very pleased to see that every player in the team performed well, and Desert Springs demonstrated once more that we are a strong team’.
As a reminder, please note that La Cala Golf Club has accepted our invitation to play the Desert Springs V’s. La Cala Ryder Cup Match scheduled for Saturday 12th July at Desert Springs and obviously they will be looking for retribution!
