Trish Johnson 2007 BMW Italian Open Champion |
Congratulations to Desert Springs’ tournament professionals Trish Johnson and Becky Brewerton in qualifying for automatic selection to the Solheim Cup Team. Both players made the top 5 European Tour Solheim standings to gain their places on the team, which was announced today.
Becky will become the first Welsh player to play in the matches, whilst Trish will be making her 7th appearance. Both players have enjoyed great success this season with a tournament win each and several top five places.
The Solheim Cup, like the Ryder Cup, is a biennial match against the USA. The matches will be played at Halmstad in Sweden between 14th –16th September and will be televised on Sky Sports.
Trish and Becky will be part of a team of 12, which also includes Laura Davies and Annika Sorenstam as well as players from 9 different European countries. The team is made up of 5 players from the European Tour Rankings, 3 from The Rolex World Rankings and 3 wild card players selected by captain Helen Alfredsson.
We wish Trish and Becky well and look forward to seeing them at Desert Springs this week for a much-needed break from the tour and some pre-event practice.
