At the conclusion of three days of competition golf in the Tarleton Travel Ladies Pro-Am, the ladies of Desert Springs Golf Club, have successfully defended their title and emerged as the 2007 Pro-Am Champions!
The three days of golf saw 10 teams competing over two rounds at the Valle del Este resort and one at the Desert Springs Resort. Each team consisted of 6 amateur golfers, playing in 2 groups of three, and one professional, with the professional playing 9 holes with each group on each of the days. Using a Stableford points format, the best 4 scores from the seven players on each hole were combined to be counted towards the team score.
The Desert Springs team, consisting of Pat Clay, Kay Dunphy, Wikki de Graaf, Susan Kenny, Marianne Manus, Hilary O’Herilhy and former LET professional Susan Moon, affectionately known as ‘The Slice Girls’, led from the start after the first day played at Valle del Este.
Not surprisingly, playing the second round on The Indiana, their home course, and with their natural high spirits buoyed up by their matching team shirts, sponsored of course by Desert Springs, ‘The Slice Girls’ extended their lead, taking an 8 shot lead into the final day to be played at Valle del Este.
However, this almost proved to be too tight as, after 9 holes, they were caught by their nearest rivals ‘The Flying Dutchwomen’. However, a stern talking to by their professional and some stunning golf from all concerned over the back nine saw them cruise to a 13 shot victory and a successful defence of their title.
Susan Moon, former LET tournament player said of her team: ‘The Desert Springs ladies are great competitors, there is no doubt that playing the Indiana course on a regular basis, at or around your handicap, means that you are a very accomplished golfer indeed and makes you very hard to beat elsewhere!’
Congratulations to Susan and ‘The Slice Girls’ from everyone at Desert Springs!
