The scene for the inaugural Desert Springs Summer Ball was set in the beautiful surroundings of El Torrente. Members of the star-studded cast started to arrive at around 20.00 hrs where 70 people gathered in the courtyard. There was an air of impending excitement as we enjoyed our glass of champagne and canapés. It was great to see the children entering into the spirit of things, many dressed in flamenco style.
Desert Springs is known for attracting celebrity guests, however it’s not often that one gets the likes of Humphrey Gokart (aka Martin Symmington) Anthony and Cleopatra (Barry and Pauline) Robin Hood and Maid Marion (Noel and Sheila) and Bluebeard (Gerrard) gathered in one act!
Set designer, Joel Lode from the cactus nursery, produced a stunning display of miniature cacti in black and white themed tubs to add to the flavour of the evening.
Our grand entry to dinner was made on the traditional red carpet; El Torrente was beautifully presented for the occasion, black and white star balloons and lots of glitter. The band began to play as we started our star struck dinner, Ava Gardener Salad and Jack Lemmon Sorbet were among the famous courses selected especially for us by Executive Producer Steven Pegg.
The star turn of the evening was undoubtedly the Flamenco Show, a spectacular performance of traditional and modern Spanish dance had us all spellbound with its’ energy and sensuality.
The band played on and we danced the night away, pausing only for the occasional Hollywood Raspberry Smash, cocktail of the night, on the terrace of El Torrente.
A huge vote of thanks goes to the Desert Springs staff and to everyone who supported the event by attending and donating raffle prizes, we raised a healthy contribution to the Captain’s Charities and… we had a BALL!
