Playas del Almanzora, S.L. has launched a major investment programme designed to strengthen sustainability, enhance water efficiency, and elevate the quality of the Indiana golf course.
The project represents a total investment of €2,893,577.41 and is supported by the Regional Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía), as part of its programme for drought mitigation, climate change adaptation, and water efficiency within the Andalusian tourism sector. The initiative is co-funded by European Next Generation EU funds, with an approved grant of €1,880,825.31 under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
A key development will be the installation of a Reversible Electrodialysis (EDR) water treatment system, enabling the reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation and reducing reliance on external water sources.
The investment also encompasses the modernisation of the golf course irrigation system, the renovation of hydraulic infrastructure, improved water recirculation across lakes and water features, and the progressive transition of selected grass areas to warm-season turf species that offer greater drought resistance.
Furthermore, the project includes landscaping enhancements featuring plant species native to Almería’s desert environment, as well as the construction of pipeline infrastructure to transport reclaimed water from the treatment facilities in Cuevas del Almanzora and Vera directly to Desert Springs Resort.
Work has already commenced and will continue over the coming months. Desert Springs Resort will keep homeowners, members, and visitors regularly updated on the progress of the works and any temporary effects on course playability.
