Italy National Cricket Team complete pre-season training camp at Desert Springs Resort

 

Seventeen (17) members of the Italy National Cricket Team (Cricket Italia), accompanied by Head Coach Kelum Perera and Assistant Coaches Riccardo Maggio and Hemantha Samaraweera, are now back in Italy having completed a successful 5-day training camp between Wednesday 3^rd – Monday 8^th April at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course with its very own dedicated Cricket Ground and Academy, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.

Riccardo Maggio, Italia Cricket Assistant Coach commented;

“Desert Springs was a great place to bring the Italian cricket team for a pre-season work out. The facilities were excellent and gave the whole team a chance to improve their game on turf.”

JP Sergio Meade – Italia Cricket player remarked of his experience at Desert Springs;

The facilities were unreal especially as we were in a Desert. The turf wickets were really good thus helping us all build and work on our skills.

All of the management and staff were extremely friendly so thanks to all.

Grass net practice, both bowling and batting took place at the Cricket Academy. Strength and conditioning work, running, speed and agility work were completed at the Cricket Ground.

During their stay Cricket Italia competed in a series of three matches at the Desert Springs Cricket Ground against visiting UK side New Farnley Cricket Club. The first, a 50-Over match and two T20 Matches, resulting in a clean sweep of three victories for Italia Cricket, providing the perfect preparation for their first T20I (T20 International) against Germany on 23^rd May 2019 in the Netherlands.

We brought a mixed group of senior and junior players and we all had a really good experience on the grass wickets.

The players and coaches were accommodated in some of the privately-owned apartments reserved for holidays and short breaks at Desert Springs and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in El Torrente and the Crocodile Club Restaurant.
