The Club Phase of the El Corte Inglés Golf Circuit that Desert Springs was selected to host duly took place on Saturday 11th April.
On offer to the winner of the Men’s and Ladies section was that all important place in the Area Phase, scheduled to take place at Antequera Golf Club on 31st May, where the qualifiers will play as a team representing Desert Springs.
The event attracted a strong field of 66 entrants made up of Desert Springs Members, golfers from the local area and as far away as Cataluña, the Basque Country and Madrid.
With a total Stableford points score of 36, Desert Springs’ members Mike Thorpe and Lorena López Castaño were the winners of the Men’s and Ladies section respectively.
Mike remarked:
‘It has been a great day; as usual the golf course was in perfect condition and the organisation from the Club and G2 has been superb and I am delighted that I managed to score well despite the windy conditions, which I am used to playing with in Ireland!’
Lorena commented:
‘It was a fantastic day. I didn’t think that I could win with my score, but I really enjoyed the day and the fantastic conditions of the Indiana Course and I look forward to representing Desert Springs in the Area Phase at Antequera Golf Club.’
The best 4 teams of the Area phase will then be invited on an all expenses paid trip to the Final Phase of the event, which will be held at Almenara Golf Club, Sotogrande on 14th June 2009.
