NEWS LETTER

May 2017

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in February, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out in March and April and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in May 2017.

MARCH and APRIL COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Greens hollow coring

The program of hollow coring the greens was adjusted due to mechanical issues but was completed on schedule, Wednesday 26th April.

Tee Steps

The worn railway sleeper steps on holes 3, 6, 10 and 11 were replaced to improve aesthetics and safety.

Verti-Draining

The program of verti-draining (solid tine aerification) the fairways has not taken place.

Solid Tining Greens

The program of solid tining the greens was completed on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th March.

13th Tee Maintenance

The area of dense trees and shrubs are being cleared to improve air movement and reduce shade by the 13th Ladies tees. The work is on going.  Damaged trees behind the 13th Championship tees were also removed.

Renovation of Golf Academy Green Side Practice Bunker

Due to other scheduled maintenance programs, the renovation of the bunker has not taken place.

MAY COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

Driving Range Closure

The driving range will be closed on Monday 8th May, with a planned reopening scheduled for Monday 22nd May. This temporary closure is required to allow for the introduction of a new sewerage and irrigation pipe that will be installed across the driving range. The putting and chipping greens will be open as normal.

We apologise for the inconvenience.

Greens Hollow Coring

The scheduled hollow coring of the greens on Monday 22nd May will be replaced by the use of the Air2G2*, previously tested at Desert Springs. This machine aerates the greens by injecting air into the soil profile. The process is extremely slow but effective. The aeration holes will be visual after aeration. Solid tining and sand topdressing will also take place during this process.

Bunker Edging and Compaction

The bunkers will be edged and the sand lip compacted to improve the appearance and playability of the bunkers.

Green’s Collar Turfing and Seeding

The Rye-grass green’s collars, over time, have become contaminated with different species of grasses that cannot be controlled chemically. This turf grass will be removed mechanically and new Rye grass turf will be placed.

In the knowledge that all Property Owners and Members need to have as much notice as possible concerning particular aspects of the golf course maintenance schedule that may temporarily effect the playing conditions of the green’s surface, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly, please see below the hollow coring dates in 2017.
