GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S
NEWS LETTER
November 2016
Dear Member / Property Owner,
Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in September, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in October, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in November 2016.
OCTOBER COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
PGA EuroPro Tour Golf Course Maintenance
The weeks leading up to the EuroPro Tour grand final, the golf course maintenance crew on the Indiana Course worked 1800 additional hours. These hours worked will continue to have a positive effect on the playing surfaces of the golf course for the remaining months of the year.
Turfing of Green’s Collars 2 and 17
The collars on holes 2 and 17 were successfully turfed and back in play with minimum disruption to play.
18th Green Approach
The 18th green approach will continue to be closed to all trolley and machinery traffic. The approach and collars are now showing signs of recovery after restricting golf trolley and machinery traffic. The approach and green complex surround are now only being cut with pedestrian mowers to reduce mechanical stress to turf grass. Once a strong turf grass stand has established and the collar has completely recovered, the movement of golf traffic can be assessed. The approach is not GUR but restricting additional traffic wear will improve its recovery rate.
NOVEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Hollow Coring Greens
As previously advised, please be reminded that the greens will be hollow cored on Monday 7th November and the practice area will be closed on Wednesday 9th November until 3pm. The hollow coring of the greens is a maintenance practice, which is scheduled each year to both maintain and enhance the playing quality of the putting surfaces. This practice creates the required environment for strong vigorous roots to grow, the very essence of golf course maintenance.
Hollow Coring Collars
The condition of the green’s collars and recovery after the summer months is not as expected after over seeding. The collars will be hollow cored; topdressed with soil amendments and additional seeding will take place to enable the collars to establish.
Hollow Coring Approaches
The green’s approaches will be hollow cored, topdressed and overseeded. These procedures will help reduce soil compaction and improve both turf grass quality and playing conditions in front of each green.
2017 Greens Hollow Coring Dates
In the knowledge that all Property Owners and Members need to have as much notice as possible concerning particular aspects of the golf course maintenance schedule that may temporarily effect the playing conditions of the green’s surface, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly, please see below the new hollow coring dates in 2017.
