GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S
NEWS LETTER
November 2015
Dear Member / Property Owner,
Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in September, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in October, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in November 2015.
OCTOBER COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
Annual Golf Course Overseeding and Sand Topdressing Program
Additional overseeding and sand topdressing has been continued as per the schedule throughout the golf course.
Golf Course Landscaping Improvements
The scheme for planting additional Palm Trees on hole 18, strategically positioned running up and along the right hand side of the hole; with the aim of preventing an errant hit golf shot ending up out of bounds entering properties, will now be carried out in January 2016.
Fairway Edging
The Edging of the all fairways and green complexes on the golf course have been completed as per the schedule.
Bunker Sand Placement
The Bunker sand placement has been completed as per the golf maintenance schedule.
NOVEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Hollow Coring Greens
As previously advised, please be reminded that the greens will be hollow cored on Monday 9th November and the practice area will be closed on Wednesday 12th November until 3pm. The hollow coring of the greens is a maintenance practice which is scheduled each year to both maintain and enhance the playing quality of the putting surfaces with which we are accustomed at The Indiana. This practice creates the required environment for strong vigorous roots to grow, the very essence of golf course maintenance.
Hollow Coring and Overseeding Tees
The tees will be hollow cored and overseeded to reduce soil compaction, improve air and water movement throughout the soil profile and enhance the playing surfaces. This maintenance program will take three weeks to complete. During this time tee markers may be moved to adjacent tees so that work can continue uninterrupted.
Annual Golf Course Verti-Cutting and Sand Topdressing Program
The maintenance program of verti-cutting and sand topdressing will commence in November on all rye grass areas of the golf course to improve the turf quality and density after the summer months. During this time a local rule of “preferred lies” will be introduced. The reception staff will be updated with the golf course conditions on a daily basis. The program will take 3 weeks to complete.
Sprinkler Heads
As a consequence of maintenance topdressing programs, the sprinkler heads gradually over time become lower than the turf playing surface. The golf course maintenance staff will be raising the sprinkler heads to improve irrigation water coverage and uniformity. Please be aware that this schedule of works will continue whilst golfers are playing, however staff will be protected from golf balls by protective netting.

In the knowledge that all Property Owners and Members need to have as much notice as possible concerning particular aspects of the golf course maintenance schedule that may temporarily effect the playing conditions of the green’s surface, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly, please see below the new hollow coring dates in 2016.
