GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S
NEWS LETTER
October 2015
Dear Member / Property Owner,
Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in August, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in September, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in October 2015.
SEPTEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
Annual Golf Course Verti-Cutting, Overseeding and Sand Topdressing Program
The fairway overseeding has been completed as per the schedule throughout the golf course. Germination of the new seed has already taken place, helping to improve grass density and playing conditions of the golf course. The sand topdressing and verti-cutting of the fairways will now take place in November.
Golf Course Landscaping Improvements
The scheme for planting additional Palm Trees on hole 18, strategically positioned running up and along the right hand side of the hole; with the aim of preventing an errant hit golf shot ending up out of bounds entering properties, will be carried out in October.
Driving Range Tee
The driving range and grass practice tees were closed on two separate occasions, Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd September to enable the verticutting and overseeding work to be completed.
Solid Tining Greens
The Indiana golf greens were solid tined on Thursday10th and Friday 11th September, as per the maintenance schedule.
OCTOBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Annual Golf Course Overseeding and Sand Topdressing Program
Additional overseeding and sand topdressing will take place on any weak area of the golf course that has been slow to recover. In addition walk-off areas near green complexes will be staked off to control traffic on newly seeded areas. This will help improve the growing conditions for the new seed to establish.
Golf Course Landscaping Improvements
In keeping with the original landscaping plan, additional palm trees will be planted on the 18th hole, strategically positioned running up and along the right hand side of the hole; with the aim of preventing an errant hit golf shot ending up out of bounds entering properties. Disruption to golf will be kept to an absolute minimum.
Fairway Edging
During the month of October the maintenance teams will be edging all fairway and green complexes on the golf course. This will enhance and define the grass areas of the golf course.
Bunker Sand Placement
Bunkers that have lost sand over the summer months will be renovated so that bunker consistency is achieved throughout the golf course. Bunkers that are being worked on will be deemed ground under repair.
