Golf Course Maintenance

Golf Superintendent's NEWSLETTER

SEPTEMBER 2015

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in July, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in August, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in September 2015.

AUGUST COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Hydro Jet Greens

The schedule of Hydro-Jetting the greens was replaced with solid tining greens, a similar practice improving water and air movement throughout the soil profile. The program of solid tining the greens will continue throughout the summer.

Fresh Water Irrigation

The fresh water irrigation program to reduce the impact of salty irrigation water and salt accumulation on the putting surfaces has been completed.

SEPTEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

Annual Golf Course Verti-Cutting, Overseeding and Sand Topdressing Program

The maintenance program of verti-cutting, overseeding and sand topdressing will commence on Tuesday 1st September, on all rye grass areas of the golf course to improve the turf quality and density after the summer months. During this time a local rule of “preferred lies” will be introduced. The reception staff will be updated with the golf course conditions on a daily basis. The program will take 2 weeks to complete.

Golf Course Landscaping Improvements

In keeping with the original landscaping plan, additional palm trees will be planted on the 18th hole, strategically positioned running up and along the right hand side of the hole; with the aim of preventing an errant hit golf shot ending up out of bounds entering properties. The work is scheduled to take place throughout the third week of September. Disruption to golf will be keep to an absolute minimum.

Driving Range Tee

The grass driving range tee will be verticut and overseeded with rye grass to reestablish the playing surface in preparation for the peak season.

Solid Tining Greens

The Indiana golf greens will be solid tined with 5mm pencil tines, increasing oxygen uptake to the root system, which will reduce the negative impact of accumulated salts within the soil profile. These holes are only open and noticeable for 2 days. There is also no noticeable effect to the playing quality of the green’s surface during this period.
