NEWS LETTER
JULY 2015
Dear Member / Property Owner,
Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in May, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in June, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in July 2015.
JUNE COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
Hand Watering
The programme of hand watering the greens and tees was completed as per the schedule and will continue throughout the summer months.
Hydro Jet Greens
The schedule of Hydro-Jetting the green has been completed. The program of hydro jetting the greens will continue throughtout the summer.
Bunker Renovation And Turfing
The turfing of the bunker faces and edges has been completed on hole 16.
Hole 1 Landscaping Maintenance
The golf course landscaping team continue pruning the plants on hole number 1.
Championship Tee Markers
As previously advised, the PGA EuroPro Tour Championship will be coming to Desert Springs from Monday 26th to Friday 30th October 2015. To help prepare the championship tees to the hightest of standards for the tournament, the tee markers will be removed and the tees closed for general play.
JULY COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Hole 1 Landscaping Maintenance
The plumbagos (the blue flowering bushes) down the right hand side of hole one will be pruned to help the plant regenerate new shoots, producing a healthier plant and new flowers. This heavy pruning will also allow us to assess the general landscaping design and gain access to prune other plants. No plants, unless dead are going to be removed. The pruning will greatly improve the aesthetics and appearance of the housing interface. The pruning will also expose seeds to sunlight, so we will actually gain plants. The pruning will also allow us to assess the population of the rabbits and remove them, therefore, the plants will be healthier after pruning, and the fairway quality will also improve.
Hand Watering
Throughout the summer months hand watering and syringing of the greens and tees will take place, to help reduce the effects of stress on the playing surfaces resulting from short and frequent mowing; shallow rooting; high Evapotranspiration rates and high air and soil temperatures. Hand watering also reduces water consumption and improves the performance of the bent grass during drought conditions. Please be advised that watering cannot be stopped during play for this reason.
Hydro Jet Greens
The greens will be aerified with the “Hydrojet” machine. This system of aeration creates small pin sized air holes in the green by the use of high-pressure water, improving water and air movement throughout the soil profile. There will be no adverse effect to the quality of the green playing surface during this time.
2015 Greens Hollow Coring Dates
In the knowledge that all Property Owners and Members need to have as much notice as possible concerning particular aspects of the golf course maintenance schedule that may temporarily effect the playing conditions of the green’s surface, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly, please see below the remaining hollow coring date for 2015.
Monday 9th November 2015
In Addition the Putting Green, Chipping Green and Driving Range Facility will be closed for hollow coring on Wednesday 11th November 2015.
