MARCH 2015
Dear Member / Property Owner,
Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in January, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in February, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in March 2015.
FEBRUARY COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
Bunker Edging
The golf course maintenance teams have completed edging the bunkers on the Indiana golf course.
Verti-Draining Fairways
The program of verti-draining the Indiana Course fairways has been completed on holes 1-18, 2, 4, 7, 10, 11, 12, 17.
Bunker Renovation And Turfing
The turfing of the bunker faces and edges has been completed on holes 8, 10th green surround, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18.
MARCH COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Verti-Draining Fairways
The program of verti-draining the fairways will continue on the remaining holes; 3, 9, Chipping Green surround and the practice range. This particular aspect of course maintenance is both extremely necessary and time consuming, so we ask you to please bear with us until its completion. Disruption to play, as always, will be kept to an absolute minimum.
Solid Tining Greens
The remaining greens will be hollow cored during March due to the high traffic of golfers on the course during the month of February.
Tee Top Dressing, Verti-cutting and Overseeding
The tees will be topdressed, verti-cut, and overseeded to improve the quality of the playing surfaces and turf density. During this time tee markers may be moved to adjacent tees so that work can continue uninterrupted.
Bunker Renovation and Turfing
Many of the bunker edges, over time, have lost their definition and need rebuilding with new turf. White half moon metal stakes have been used to identify these areas throughout the golf course. During establishment, these areas will be roped off to help establishment of the new turf.
Hole 1 Landscaping Maintenance
The plumbagos (the blue flowering bushes) down the right hand side of hole one, will be pruned to help the plant regenerate new shoots, producing a healthier plant and new flowers. This heavy pruning will also allow us to assess the general landscaping design and gain access to prune other plants. No plants, unless dead are going to be removed. The pruning will greatly improve the aesthetics and appearance of housing interface. The pruning will also expose seeds to sunlight, so we will actually gain plants. The pruning will also allow us to assess the population of the rabbits and remove them, therefore, the plants will be healthier after pruning, and the fairway quality will also improve.
