DECEMBER 2014
Dear Member / Property Owner,
Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in October, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in November, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in December 2014.
NOVEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
Hollow Coring Greens
The greens have been hollow cored as per the schedule. The recovery rate of the putting surfaces has been very good.
Hollow Coring and Overseeding Tees
The hollow coring and topdressing of the tees has been completed on holes 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 14, 15 and 16. The remaining holes will be completed in December.
Annual Golf Course Overseeding and Sand Topdressing Program
Additional overseeding and sand topdressing has continued as per the schedule throughout the golf course. Areas will be roped off in certain locations of the golf course to help control golf traffic that disrupts seed germination.
DECEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Verti Draining Fairways
The programme of verti-draining (solid tine aerification) the fairways will start in December. This particular aspect of golf course maintenance is both extremely necessary and time consuming, so we ask you to please bear with us until its completion. Disruption to play, as always, will be kept to an absolute minimum.
Sprinkler Heads
As a consequence of maintenance topdressing programs, the sprinkler heads gradually over time become lower than the turf playing surface. The golf course maintenance staff will be raising the sprinkler heads to improve irrigation water coverage and uniformity. Please be aware that this schedule of works will continue whilst golfers are playing, however staff will be protected from golf balls by protective netting.
Hollow Coring and Overseeding Tees
The remaining tees on holes, 1, 2, 3, 17 and 18 will be hollow cored and overseeded to reduce soil compaction, improve air and water movement throughout the soil profile and enhance the playing surfaces. During this time tee markers may be moved to adjacent tees so that work can continue uninterrupted.
Annual Golf Course Overseeding and Sand Topdressing Program
Additional overseeding and sand topdressing will continue to take place on any weak area of the golf course that has been slow to recover. Walk-off areas near green complexes will be roped off to control traffic on newly seeded areas. This will help improve the growing conditions for the new seed to establish.
