Golf Course Maintenance

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S

NEWS LETTER

JULY 2014

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in May, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in June, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in July 2014.

JUNE COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Hand Watering

The programme of hand watering the greens and tees was completed as per the schedule and will continue throughout the summer months.

Crab Grass Control

The fairways and green surrounds have been sprayed with the third and final application of pre-emergence herbicide. The Indiana course was closed on one occasion, after 3pm, to allow spraying to continue.

Golf Landscaping Improvements

The landscaping team has successfully finished cleaning out the river from the 3rd green complex to the “El Tiburon” lake on hole 14. Over the coming months, once the edges of the river have dried, additional rocks and gravel will be placed to enhance this water feature.

Solid Tining Greens

The greens have been solid tined with small pencil tines to improve air and water movement in the soil profile during the summer months. Disruption to the playing surface was keep to an absolute minimum.

JULY COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

Hydro Jet Greens

The greens will be aerified with the “Hydrojet” machine. This system of aeration creates small pin sized air holes in the green by the use of high-pressure water, improving water and air movement throughout the soil profile. There will be no adverse effect to the quality of the green playing surface during this time.

Fungicide Spraying

The preventative fungicide spraying program of all grass areas will continue in July. This safeguard helps protect the course against strong summer turf grass diseases. Signs will be placed on fairway 1, green surround 1 and fairway 9 to remind all players that spraying is in progress. The reception staff will also advise players before play when spraying is in progress. Please remember to wash your hands after play.
