Golf Course Maintenance

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S

NEWS LETTER

JUNE 2014

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in April, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in May, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in June 2014.

MAY COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Hand Watering

The additional programme of hand watering tees and greens and additional localised manual sprinkler head irrigation was completed as per the schedule.

Crab Grass Control

The fairways have been sprayed with a second application of pre-emergence herbicide. The Indiana course was closed after 3pm on two occasions to allow spraying to continue.

JUNE COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

Golf Course Landscaping Improvements

The landscaping team will commence work to clear the river that runs from the 3rd Green complex, in front of the 7th Green, behind the 10th Green and in front the of the 9th Ladies Tee. This is a major project and will take many weeks to complete.

Fungicide Spraying

The preventative fungicide spraying program of all grass areas will commence in June. This safeguard helps protect the course against strong summer turf grass diseases. Signs will be placed on fairway 1, green surround 1 and fairway 9 to remind all players that spraying is in progress. The reception staff will also advise players before play when spraying is in progress. Please remember to wash your hands after play.

Hand Watering

Throughout the summer months hand watering of the greens and tees will take place. Please be advised that this is an essential part of summer maintenance. Hand watering cannot be stopped during play for this reason.

Crab Grass Control.

The fairways will be sprayed with a pre-emergence herbicide, which will prevent the germination of the crab grass seed. The efficiency and performance of the herbicide is greatly improved with late afternoon spraying, followed by night time irrigation. This will virtually eliminate the germination of the weed seed and prevent the product being walked onto the greens of the Indiana Course. The third application of the herbicide is scheduled to take place on Monday 23rd June. To allow spraying to be completed the golf course will be closed after 3pm on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th June.

The Club House Golf Reception staff will have any further playing restrictions displayed accordingly. As normal, disruption to play will be keep to an absolute minimum.
