GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
‘NEWS LETTER’
OCTOBER 2007
Dear Member / Property Owner,
Following on from the ‘The Golf Course Superintendents News Letter’ sent to you in August which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana course in September, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in October 2007.
SEPTEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
15 Hole Modifications
The final construction work to the cascade and housing frontage of the lake has now been completed as per the schedule.
Bunker Sand Placement
Work has continued throughout the month of September enhancing the playability of the golf course bunkers.
Solid Tining Greens
During September, the greens have been solid tined on a ten-day cycle.
Edging Fairways
Holes 1 through 9 have been completed as per the schedule.
OCTOBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME
Bunker Sand Placement and Edging
The remaining bunkers that have lost sand over the summer months will be reconditioned so that bunker consistency is achieved throughout the golf course. The bunkers will also be edged to enhance their aesthetic appearance. Bunkers that are being worked on will be deemed ground under repair.
Edging Fairways
During the month of October, the maintenance teams will be edging holes 10 through 18. This will enhance and define the aesthetic appearance of the golf course grass areas.
15 Hole Modifications
Work is scheduled to take place with respect to the introduction of new landscaping along the right hand side of hole 15, around the perimeter of the lake and the surround of the green. Tying-in of the fairway edge leading to the newly introduced lake feature shall also be completed. The newly extended left hand width of the fairway will continue to go through its process of ‘Grow-In’ and is anticipated to be opened for play at the end of October.
Hollow Coring Greens
The hollow coring of the greens (6 mm Tines) will take place as per the schedule during October. This is an essential part of golf course maintenance. The hollow coring of the greens is a practice which is scheduled each year to both maintain and enhance the playing quality of the putting surfaces with which we are accustomed at The Indiana. This practice creates the required environment for strong vigorous roots to grow, the very essence of golf course maintenance.
Tournament Set up
During the month of October the daily mowing and general maintenance practices of the golf course will be increased, as we get closer to the Spanish Men’s & Ladies Senior Open. This will include the increase in mowing frequencies, the creation of faster green speeds, heavy rolling of desert areas, and generally an increased intensity of course maintenance activities throughout the golf course.
You will be able to keep up to date with the full tournament and social schedule, format and any additions, information of how to enter, and much, much more by visiting either our official website www.almanzora.com or alternatively, reading the notice boards in both the Men’s and Ladies locker rooms in the Clubhouse whilst at the Resort.
We and the staff at Desert Springs are looking forward to seeing you on The Indiana course in the near future.
Kind regards,
Simon Coaker |
