GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
‘NEWS LETTER’
FEBRUARY 2011
Dear Member / Property Owner,
Following on from the ‘The Golf Course Superintendents News Letter’ sent to you in December which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in January, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in February 2011.
JANUARY COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
Hole 2 Wadi Extension
The construction work to create a dry wadi along the property boundary to the left hand side of the second hole has started. The area has been marked as ground under repair.
Bunker Edging and Sand Placement
The maintenance teams have completed the edging programme and sand replacement within the bunkers of the golf course.
Hard Pan Grading and Rolling
Due to a mechanical failure of the grading machine the programme of rolling and grading of the desert hard pan was defered to commence in February.
7th Hole Landscaping Modifications
Further pruning of the Agave americana on the 7th hole has taken place as per the schedule to help aide the location of golf balls near the larger plants and to assist playability.
Verti Draining Fairways
The programme of verti draining the Indiana course fairways continued, with holes 8, 9, 10 and 13 being completed.
Golf Course Landscaping Improvements
The improvement works to the golf course landscaping areas has continued on holes 14, 2 and the pruning of the golf course olive trees.
FEBRUARY COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME
Hole 2 Wadi Extension
The construction of the dry wadi along the property boundary to the left hand side of the second hole will continue in February. The wadi is being extended an additional 75 metres to divert all storm water away from the property boundary of Buena Vista. There will be no reduction of the greens surround grass.
Hard Pan Grading and Rolling
Areas of desert hard pan within close proximity of the fairways will be graded and rolled to improve their playability. ‘Winter Rules’ must be applied to any players’ golf ball that comes to rest in a desert hard pan area where this work is being carried out.
Verti Draining Fairways
The programme of verti-draining the fairways will continue throughout February. This particular aspect of course maintenance is both extremely necessary and time consuming, so we ask you to please bear with us until its completion. Disruption to play, as always is kept to an absolute minimum.
