GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S

NEWS LETTER

February 2016

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in December, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in January, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in February 2016.

JANUARY COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Sprinkler Heads

Additional sprinkler heads have been raised on hole 5. The raising and levelling of the golf course sprinkler heads will be on going and will take many months to complete.

Verti Draining

The verti draining of the fairways will now start in February 2016.

Green’s Collar Turfing

The program of replacing turf on the green’s collars will take place in February 2016.

Solid Tining Greens

The program of solid tining the greens was completed as per the maintenance schedule.

Bunker Edging

The golf course maintenance team have completed edging the bunkers on the Indiana golf course.

FEBRUARY COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

Verti Draining Fairways

The program of verti-draining (solid tine aerification) the fairways will start in February. This particular aspect of golf course maintenance is both extremely necessary and time consuming, so we ask you to please bear with us until its completion. Disruption to play, as always, will be kept to an absolute minimum.

Solid Tining Greens

The Indiana golf greens will be solid tined twice per month, weather permitting, with 5mm pencil tines. These holes are only open (noticeable) for the first 2 days, increasing oxygen uptake to the root system, which will reduce the negative impact of accumulated salts within the soil profile. There is no noticeable effect to the playing quality of the green’s surface.

Green’s Collar Turfing

The Rye-grass green’s collars, over time, have become contaminated with different species of grasses that cannot be controlled chemically. This turf grass will be removed mechanically and new Rye grass turf will be placed. Green’s collars 17, 18, and the chipping green are the most affected.

Golf Course Landscaping Improvements

In keeping with the original landscaping plan, additional palm trees will be planted on the 16th and 18th holes, strategically positioned running up and along the right hand side of each hole; with the aim of preventing an errant hit golf shot ending up out of bounds entering properties. The work is scheduled to take place throughout the fourth week of February. Disruption to golf will be keep to an absolute minimum.

Renovation of Golf Academy Green Side Practice Bunker

By its very nature, when practicing bunker shots, sand is deposited outside of the bunker onto the green surround. This continuous loss of sand creates a sand mound where grass cannot thrive. This area will be renovated.
