Desert Springs resident and member Kay Dunphy completed a golfing double last week. Her first victory came in the inaugural Desert Springs ‘Golf 4 Women’ Winter Golf Festival where she and her playing partners Susan Kenny, Hilary O´Herlihy and Wikki de Graaf (aka. ‘The Slice Girls’) led from the start, taking the honors after some stiff competition.
The tournament was played on the Indiana Championship Course over 5 rounds, whilst Kay’s team led from the start; all 4 teams were within winning distance on the final day. The international team of Vibeke Hjort Knudsen and Maria Fjelstrup from Denmark, together with local girls Marie Mullins from Ireland and Helen Lavis snatched the lead briefly on the last day, but a strong finish from the ‘The Slice Girls’ ultimately gave them victory.
The prize giving dinner was held in the Cave at Desert Springs with all participants thoroughly enjoying the unique ambience and the quality of both the cuisine and the venue.
The ‘Golf 4 Women’ Mixed American Greensome tournament was held at the resort two days later with 26 teams participating. Once again Kay Dunphy was in fine form, partnering her husband Pat, to record 42 points and win by 3 from runners-up Chris and Ann Vinnal from Campo Sol.
Members and guests are reminded that the next ‘Golf 4 Women’ event will be the ‘Golf 4 All Pro-Am’ to be held at Desert Springs on 5th-6th January 2009, featuring players from the Ladies European Tour.
