Desert Springs’ tournament professionals Trish Johnson and Becky Brewerton continue their excellent campaigns on the Ladies 2007 European Tour. Both players were in stunning form at last weeks Catalonia Masters that was played at the Club de Golf Masia Bach, in Barcelona.
Becky shot a final round of 72 (level Par) to finish with an aggregate score of 210 (-6) to finish as joint runner up to South Africa’s Ashleigh Simon who shot a final round of 70 (-2) with an aggregate score of 208 (-8).
With this, her fourth runners-up position this season, Becky remarked:
‘I gave it a good go, but I just made a couple too many mistakes at holes where I had short irons in. I’ve been struggling to stop the ball from spinning with my wedges so every time it’s been coming back ten yards and it’s been difficult to allow for because a lot of the pins this week were difficult to go past.
I drove the ball as straight as I ever have which you need to do around here. My short game was good, but I made a couple of mistakes. All the same I gave it my best and committed to every shot where I could.’
Trish finished in fourth place, with a final round score of 71 (-1) to finish on 211, one shot behind Becky. The result keeps her in second place on the Ladies European Tour Money List and also in second place in the Solheim Cup selection rankings. Trish has made the team on 7 of the 8 contests against the Americans and is now extremely well placed to be an automatic selection following her win in the BMW Championship in May.
Becky is currently lying in 7th position in both the Ladies European Tour Money List and the Solheim rankings. Five players qualify automatically for the Solheim Cup whilst the remaining 7 rely on the Captain’s selection.
With two major events, the Evian and British Open, just around the corner, the next few weeks will be an exciting time for our tour players and we wish them well.
