Fifteen (15) members of the German Men’s National Cricket Team accompanied by four (4) coaching staff are now back in Germany having completed a successful five (5) day training camp between Tuesday 7th – Sunday 12th September at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course with its very own ICC accredited Cricket Ground, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.
Asif Khan / German National Team Assistant Coach, remarked of Desert Springs Resort and the training camp;
“We enjoyed returning to Desert Springs and using the facilities which once again, were great. The academy practice wickets as well as the main pitch offered variety for all aspects of cricket. Nick, the groundsman, as well as the restaurant staff, along with the technicians went out of their way to cater for our requests. A big thank you to the Desert Springs team and we look forward to returning very soon!”
The focus of the training camp was to provide an opportunity for the players to both work seriously on their batting, bowling & fielding skills as well as their fitness levels, to ensure that the players are in the best possible shape leading up to their preparation for the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 Europe World Cup Qualifiers to be held at Desert Springs Resort in October.
Grass net practice, both bowling and batting took place at the Cricket Academy. Out-field practice, match simulations, throw downs, strength and conditioning work, running, speed and agility work was completed at the Cricket Ground.
Brian Mantle, CEO of the German National Team commented of their training camp at Desert Springs Resort:
“Desert Springs Resort meets all of our cricketing needs for warm weather training and matches. The cricketing facilities are near perfect and the service exceptional, both at the cricket ground and in the Club House.”
Germany player Dylan Blignaut commented;
“Desert Springs Resort is a fantastic location and venue. The grounds are very well maintained and in great condition. The hospitality was awesome, and we really enjoyed our time here.”
The camp culminated in Germany competing against Spain in three T20i Matches which resulted in Spain winning the closely fought series two games to one.
The players and coaches were accommodated in some of the privately-owned Apartments and Townhouse at Desert Springs and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in El Torrente Restaurant.
