Desert Springs Resort to host ICC U’19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Europe Qualifier
It is with pleasure that we announce that Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort with its very own dedicated ICC accredited Cricket Ground and Academy, located in Almeria, Andalucía, south-east Spain has been selected to host the ICC U’19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Europe Qualifier between Saturday 18th September and Saturday 25th September, 2021.
Following on from the ICC’s recent announcement to award the Desert Springs cricket facilities ODI accreditation, this is a further indication of the significance of Desert Springs Resort as an all year-round cricket destination.
Over eight days, the talented youth from four European nations; Jersey, Ireland, Scotland and The Netherlands will compete to see who will qualify for the ICC U’19 Men’s World Cup Finals to be held in the West Indies in 2022. The previous time this event was held was in 2019 where Scotland were the victorious nation.
ICC and Cricket España staff and officials will work closely with Desert Springs Resort to ensure that Jersey, Scotland, Ireland and The Netherlands benefit from a first-class experience both on and off the field.
Following a practice day on Saturday 18th September at the Desert Springs Cricket Academy, the teams will then play each other once in 50 over white ball matches on the superb Desert Springs Cricket Ground. The two top teams will then play off on Saturday 25th September for a place in the World Cup finals.
Desert Springs Resort Sales & Marketing Manager, Simon Coaker remarked;
“It is an honour for Desert Springs to have been selected to host the ICC U’19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Europe Qualifier and it is a further confirmation of the ability for Desert Springs Resort to attract high quality International cricket events. We very much look forward to welcoming the teams and to delivering a superb event.”
Resort accommodation for officials is provided in the apartments & townhouses at Desert Springs and the resort’s executive chef will be on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining at the cricket pavilion.
SPECTATORS NOT PERMITTED
In accordance with the directive from the ICC with respect to Covid-19, unfortunately we must advise that spectators are not permitted to attend the event.
The priority of both the ICC and Desert Springs Resort jointly is understandably to keep the players safe and ensure we do not have any positive Covid-19 cases. A positive case could impact a team’s ability to complete their matches and would obviously result in significant disruption to them returning to their home also.
Consequently, we advise that no spectators will be able to access the ground during matches. There will be clear signage on entry into the ground stating that nobody is allowed to enter unless they are accredited personnel and have been tested by the on-site nurse.
