Pat Craig will officially take over the reigns from Freddie Beames as Club Captain on 1st April 2006, but it is two weeks after this date, that he is looking forward to just as much. On Friday 14th April Pat will host ‘The Captain’s Drive In’ on the Indiana Course at the Desert Springs Resort and Golf Club.
The day will start at the 1st Tee where each player will have the option of placing a 2 Euro bet on having their drive be the nearest to a fairway marker placed in advance by the new Captain, with the winner taking all. All players will follow the Captain in an individual stableford points competition. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for both Men and Ladies and the overall winner will be awarded the Captain’s Drive-In Trophy. The day will round off with the ‘Captain’s Drive-In’ Dinner and charity raffle in El Torrente restaurant (arriving at 7.30pm for 8pm seating).
Pat stated, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my position as Vice-Captain to Freddie and indeed my committee duties over the past year. I look forward very much to taking the role as Club Captain and to working on everyone’s behalf with the new Committee and Management. We must all be conscious that Desert Springs is a commercial venture. Unlike a Member’s Club, as owners and members of Desert Springs, we must strive for a balance that fairly ensures that our interests are recognized alongside those of the Management. This past year, we have received excellent consideration and treatment from Management on all the various matters that have arisen and I am confident that this will continue. Many of you will be unable to be present over Easter and as this is my first communication, I want to thank you for the support for my nomination and also for that of the other elected officials of the Club. Naturally, I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the year and as I do not yet know everyone please, please come over and say hello at any time. Your committee is there to represent your interests and I urge you to bring your wishes to and concerns to our attention – we want to see nothing but smiling face at Desert Springs.”
