We are pleased to announce that the Desert Springs Golf Club has accepted another invitation to host the “Madera Verde” Conference; this time for 2008. The conference will be held on the 26th & 27th September 2008, in collaboration with The Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG) and the Spanish Ministry of the Environment’s Association for the Promotion of Socio-Cultural Activities (APAS) for their invited guests.
The conference concerns the ways and means by which golf courses, their design and management, can contribute positively to their natural surroundings.
Desert Springs was in fact awarded the 2005 “Madera Verde” Prize for Environmental Responsibility out of no less than 60 other golf courses which had been considered for the award for its extraordinary attention and care for its natural environment.
Director of Golf, Simon Coaker commented –
“The high level of environmental awareness and concern demonstrated within the golfing industry throughout Spain is now both readily apparent and justified. We believe that environmental awareness and good practice has grown at a significant pace since 2005, creating a very positive outlook for the future of golf course development. This applies not only in Spain as a whole, but above all in our own new golfing area, where sustainable golf and related tourism development are vital to its successful economic future.
During the conference, Desert Springs Golf Course Superintendent, Anthony Brooks and Chief Naturalist, Joel Lodè will be giving seminars, sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience with the invitees.”
The invitees to the conference will also compete, at Desert Springs, for the “Madera Verde Cup”, an 18-hole Texas Scramble competition, scheduled for Saturday 27th September, with an expected field of 68-players. Accordingly, tee times for the competition have been reserved from 08.43hrs – 10.51hrs.
The ‘September Greensomes’ will be held on the same day as the ‘Madera Verde Cup’ with tee times reserved from 11.07hrs – 11.55hrs.
We hope, by this Newsflash, to give you ample time to plan your trips and tee times at Desert Springs taking into account this very important day for the Resort, its members and property owners.
