Dear Member / Owner,
Well, the year is already racing away and so my year as Captain at Desert Springs Golf Club is also approaching very quickly and will start officially on 1st April 2025!
I thought it would be a good idea to send out this Newsletter and let you all know a little more about what will be happening around my Drive-In and beyond.
Firstly, before I start can I say a big thank you to our outgoing Captain Chris (Ey up) Mear.
He has done a great job and continued our Club’s history of raising funds for local charities. We should all be very proud of our Desert Springs members and the Community of golfers and non-golfers alike.
My Drive-In will take place on Thursday 17th April (Holy Thursday). The Theme for the Day will be Carnival / Fiesta. So just think Party time, think Spain, think music and dance! Anything goes, lots of fancy dress, lots of colour and lots of bling. Vamonos!!!
The schedule for the day will be:
- 08-15hrs – Light Breakfast at the Cave Bar – coffee, pastries, orange juice and cava
- 09:15hrs. – Drive In
- 10:00hrs. – Shotgun start
Whilst having your breakfast Gina and Linda will be selling the all-important flags for my Drive (5 Euros each). Gail and Nicki will be selling Mulligans too at 5 Euros each, max 4 per team (Mrs. Captain may need a couple on the first tee!)
You can also reserve or buy your preferred starting tee from Barry White beforehand i.e. anytime from Monday 14th (price 40 Euros). As usual the team game will be a Texas Scramble. There will nearest the Pins, and other on-course challenges and my Hacienda Chicks, Karen and Hetty will be waiting to serve you with all sorts of “nicies” at the Watering Hole.
After golf the real party starts: Let’s meet at the Club in good time as we have a lot to do! Meet at 18.30hrs. sit down at your tables promptly at 19:00hrs.
Dress Code for the evening continues as the day began. Party time, bling, colour and don’t forget your dancing shoes. The evening is open to golfers and non-golfers …the more the merrier.
A three-course dinner at El Torrente with drinks included during service. Raffle tickets will be on sale during the meal. The meal will be followed by Prize presentations, the raffle and a few words from me.
The Springers have kindly offered to play for us and will donate their fee to The Captains Charity…Thank you!
You may already know that I have nominated Dave Hadden to be my Vice, and I trust that you will support this nomination and support those people who have agreed to be nominated to the Committee for the first time and those who have agreed to be nominated to stay on in key roles. Many thanks to all those Committee members who have worked so hard this year on our behalf.
I intend to support AMCAL again this year. A Cuevas Charity which assists young people and adults with learning difficulties…have a look at their website; Asociacion de Personas con Discapacidad de Cuevas del Almanzora
I will be in touch again soon with more details about the Drive In and future fund-raising events.
There will be a quiz on Monday 21st in the evening and the Easter Trophy on Easter Sunday 20th so lots going on!!!
My contact details are scgarrod@gmail.com, mobile 0034 711 015 396 if you need to get in touch. I am on WhatsApp too.
