The 2009 ‘Golf 4 All’ Pro-Am was played over the Indiana course at Desert Springs on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th January. Ten players from the Ladies European Tour partnered Desert Springs’ members and guests in a unique two-day pro-am tournament.
The first round Texas Scramble was won by Desert Springs’ members, Jean Sheehan, Brendan Sheehan and Alan Patterson playing with Bronwyn Mullins-Lane from Australia, 6 birdies over the closing 7 holes gave them a total of 52 points and a 2 point lead going in to the second round. On the second day, Solheim Cup Vice-Captain, Joanne Morley was in fine form, captaining her team of Gail McKemmie, Nicki Watson and Sue Anderson to a magnificent 2-point overall victory. A birdie at the 17th from Gail, a 5 handicap county player, followed by another birdie at the last hole by Joanne gave the girls a total of 83 points for the day and 132 for the tournament and victory by 2 points.
Three teams tied for second place, with the team of Brian Chapman, Catherine Chapman, Sue Garrod and professional Kirsty Taylor winning on a count back with 83 points in the second round from Paul Taylor, Nicky Iles and Bill Iles playing with Trish Johnson.
Speaking on behalf of the winning team Sue Anderson said, “We are thrilled to have won the Pro-Am, we are all regular visitors to Desert Springs, we love coming here to play and stay. This has been a fantastic tournament, all the professionals are such good players and have been so much fun to be with, we have enjoyed every minute and plan to come back to defend our title next year.”
Former Solheim Cup player Jo Morley said “This has been my first visit to Desert Springs, I really enjoyed the golf course and hope that I will be invited back next year.”
